JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION:– ENVIRONMENT ENGINEER – OQ – ISC
Qualification:
Bachelor in Environmental Engineering / Science or Level 6 Diploma in Environment management.
Qualified as an environmental professional through education or by relevant and recognised certification courses such as NEBOSH Environment or IEMA or equivalent acceptable to Company.
Additionally certified at least as an internal auditor for ISO14001 standards.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant environmental management experience preferably in oil and gas industry, two (2) years of which shall have been gained in the Middle East.
Shall have a minimum of (3) three years of experience in environmental management overseeing similar scope of work.
Skills/Abilities:
· To Delivering HSE presentation/ training as per the project.
· To provide assistance & guidance to identify risk factors & environmental impact for development of an integrated Environment Management Program, thereby eliminating or minimizing them up to reasonable level and improving safety standards.
· To investigate incidents / accidents, dangerous occurrences & near misses, determine their root cause and implement recommendations for recurrence prevention & control.
· To Monitor Project work sites & any outstanding Environment issues and ensuring the Safety implements in timeliness of deliverables, extending support to team members by defining standard safety practices
· To participate in HSSE Meetings to create awareness about elimination of hazardous & unsafe conditions.
· To Follow instructions from HOD HSE to avoid repetitive failure & other problems that adversely affect project operations including Health, safety, environment & other regulatory compliance issues.
· To Motivates high performance amongst team members, imparting continuous on-job training to accomplish greater efficiency.
· Good in MS Office. Should know MS Word, MS Excel and PPT professionally.
· Good in English and Arabic communication. Hindi/Urdu will add value.
· OPAL Driving license will add value.
· Optimistic nature with quick learning.
· Effective leadership qualities.
· Should be familiar with all Hazards and controls.
· Establishment, Implement and Maintenance of a HSE Management System for projects in accordance with RAY/Client HSE requirements, ISO14001.
· Capable of rigorously implementing and enforcing global standards, procedures and engineering work processes.
· Excellent communication skills.
· An acquaintance of Environmental processes and management.
· Conversant with National and international laws & regulations governing environmental issues and refining/petrochemicals.
· Ability to improve the Environment perspective for the contract, steer and direct accordingly.
· Ability to cope with uncertainties and knowledge on how they will influence the business
Responsibilities:
Site Environment Engineer shall be responsible for monitoring the implementation of Environment Plan & Monitoring Plan and shall provide technical Environmental guidance, administrative and advisory role for all employees in this contract. Directly reports to HSE’s HOD specific to environment responsibilities for the HSSE Manager would include, but are not limited to, and ensuring that he:
Environmental Engineer shall be site based. They shall develop, plan, and support the implementation of environmental management practices and programs to mitigate pollution prevention and enable nature / resource conservation. Should be thoroughly aware of the national and international environmental laws, regulations, and standards for various environmental aspects. Responsible for environmental inspection, monitoring, measurement and reporting. Investigate and review environmental incidents and support in developing effective corrective action. Follow-up for completion of environmental action tracker.
Maintain oversight of the environmental performance of existing activities to ensure contractual operations meets all required regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.
Identify future environmental issues and their likely impact on contract activities and develop integrated plans and strategies with affected stakeholders in order to address the issues in the most efficient and effective manner.
Evaluate and provide advice regarding day-to-day operations progress associated with pollution prevention, waste management, water quality, and related environmental programs.
Operate and implement the Environmental Management system in line with Oman regulatory bodies and OQ
Oversees Contract and operations Waste Management Plan, in line with environmental laws and regulations in force.
Carry out environment inspections regularly and follow up on outstanding environmental issues.
Record and monitoring the progress of studies on emissions, wastewater management, soil pollution, etc. along with other departments in OQ, using regional and international ‘best practices in the environment.
Track applicable laws & regulations with specific emphasis on Soil, Air & Water quality, noise levels and hazardous waste and evaluate the potential impact of these laws on the operations of contract.
Review Environment Impact Assessments activities to ensure that contract and its staff are adhering to environmental policies and standards.
Coordinate and follow up for all the Environmental permitting process of the contract and its operations
Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permits.
Site Inspections: Regularly inspect the construction site to ensure compliance with environmental standards and identify potential issues.
Construction Waste Management: Develop and enforce waste management plans that minimize waste, promote recycling, and ensure proper disposal of construction debris.
Hazardous Waste Handling: Ensure that any hazardous materials used or encountered on-site are properly handled, stored, and disposed of according to regulations.
Dust Control: Implement dust control measures to minimize air pollution, such as watering down roads, using dust suppressants, and covering materials.
Noise Reduction: Develop strategies to minimize noise pollution, such as using quieter machinery, scheduling noisy activities during less disruptive times, and installing sound barriers.
Vibration Monitoring: Monitor and mitigate the impact of vibrations on nearby structures and sensitive areas.
Spill Prevention Plans: Develop and implement plans to prevent spills of hazardous substances, such as fuel, oil, or chemicals.
Emergency Response: Train the construction team in spill response procedures and ensure that appropriate spill containment and cleanup materials are available on-site.
Green Building Practices: Advocate for and implement sustainable construction practices, such as using eco-friendly materials, reducing energy use, and minimizing the project’s carbon footprint.
Resource Efficiency: Monitor and optimize the use of resources like water and energy to reduce waste and environmental impact.
Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed records of environmental compliance, inspections, and incidents.
Communication: Communicate environmental requirements, policies, and practices to construction teams and management.
